By now, most of the horror franchises from the 1970s and 1980s have been remade at least once. Very few of the big guns are still trucking along in the original iterations and with the same creator behind the wheel. One of those few is the Child’s Play series. This fall, the one and only Chucky returns with his seventh feature film, Cult of Chucky! Today, Universal released two trailers for the upcoming direct-to-video sequel. The green band trailer was released earlier today as an Entertainment Weekly exclusive and IGN followed it up with the release of the red-band trailer. You will find the latter below. Enjoy!
The last film, Curse of Chucky, stripped away the comedic tone and more gonzo elements of the fourth and fifth films in favor of returning the franchise to its roots. That continues here, albeit with a few returning characters that will thrill fans. Alex Vincent (Child’s Play, Child’s Play 2) and Jennifer Tilly (Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky) are both here in a major capacity, as opposed to the wonderful but fleeting cameos they had at the end of Curse. They join Curse‘s protagonist, Fiona Dourif, who returns as the lead here. Fiona is, of course, the daughter of Chucky voice actor Brad Dourif, keeping this franchise a loving (and demented) family affair.
I’m a fan of all of the films to date, so you can bet I’m super excited to see what creator/writer/director Don Mancini has in store for us this time ’round. The imagery looks approprately striking and not at all cheap, which can be a concern when sitting down with a DTV sequel. Furthermore, even beyond the returning cast members, it looks as though there are quite a few wild twists and turns awaiting us this October. I can’t wait!
Cult of Chucky is the seventh installment in the Child’s Play franchise. It is written and directed by Don Mancini. The picture is produced by David Kirschner and Ogden Gavanski. The film stars Fiona Dourif as ‘Nica Pierce’, Summer H. Howell as ‘Alice Pierce’, Alex Vincent as ‘Andy Barclay’, Jennifer Tilly as ‘Tiffany’, Grace Lynn Kung as ‘Claire’, and Brad Dourif as the voice of ‘Chucky’.
Cult of Chucky to Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD on October 3rd, 2017.
