Not only is James Cameron re-teaming with Linda Hamilton for a new Terminator film, but he’s also reuniting with another of his female stars: Kate Winslet. The Titanic actress has joined the production of the Avatar sequels. She will portray a new character named Ronal.
Cameron on Winslet joining the series…
“Kate and I have been looking for something to do together for 20 years, since our collaboration on Titanic, which was one of the most rewarding of my career. I can’t wait to see her bring the character of Ronal to life.”
Due to the development nature of the Avatar sequels, it’s impossible to know how many of the films Winslet will be appearing in. All four sequels were written simultaneously by different writers, based on outlines provided by Cameron himself. As a result, all casting has been vague in the sense that actors have been hired to join (or return for) “the Avatar sequels”, as opposed to specific films.
Winslet joins a cast across the four films that includes returnees Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, and Matt Gerald. On the newcomer end of the pool, the Fox productions have also added the likes of Cliff Curtis, Jack Champion, and Oona Chaplin. More casting is expected to be revealed in the coming months now that the films have finally begun to shoot.
