Yesterday we brought you the team roster for Freeform‘s upcoming Marvel series, “New Warriors“. Today we bring you the first promo for the cable outlet’s other upcoming Marvel TV show, “Cloak & Dagger“. Consisting of a 10 episode first season, the show will arrive on Freeform sometime in early 2018, making it one of the first Marvel shows to not air on ABC or Netflix.
The show’s synopsis…
Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from different backgrounds, acquire superpowers while forming a romantic relationship. They soon realize that their powers work better when they are together, “but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging.” Tandy, can harness the powers of light, emitting daggers from it. Tyrone can envelop targets in darkness. Together, they are “Cloak & Dagger”.
I really dig what I am seeing here. Much like the Netflix shows are rooted in crime fiction, those that land on Freeform should fit the young adult milieu that the cable outlet trades in. This very much fits that mold, showcasing a series steeped in YA melodrama with a dose of crime fiction and a nice helping of supernatural superheroism. It’s very different looking than what we have been given so far from Marvel TV, which should instantly help set it apart from the other shows. With “New Warriors” poised to be more of a feelgood comedic show, the dark melodrama of “Cloak & Dagger” should provide a nice balance to things.
“Cloak & Dagger” is the latest Marvel TV series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Created by showrunner Joe Pokaski, it is based on the characters created by Bill Mantlo and Ed Hannigan. The series stars Olivia Holt as ‘Tandy Bowen (aka Dagger)’, Aubrey Joseph as ‘Tyrone Johnson (aka Cloak)’, Andrea Roth as ‘Melissa Bowen’, Gloria Reuben as ‘Adina Johnson’, Miles Mussenden as ‘Michael Johnson’, James Saito as ‘Bernard Sanjo’, Carl Lundstedt as ‘Liam’, and J.D. Evermore as ‘Connors’.
“Cloak & Dagger” will premiere on Freeform in 2018.
