Attention Appalachia: The WVIFF Spring 2017 Film Festival Is Upon Us

For cinema lovers living in and around Charleston, WV, the West Virginia International Film Festival is an important event. While chain theaters have gotten better about playing smaller fare in more recent years, seeing films in limited theatrical release can be hard to accomplish when you don’t live in or around a major U.S. city. More often than not, film fans in smaller areas have to wait for VOD or home video before seeing such pictures. Myself included. Don’t get me wrong, I love The Fate of the Furious, Logan, and Star Wars just as much as everyone else, but my tastes extend into more independent and arthouse fare as well. Lucky for me, WVIFF has my area covered.

On Friday, April 21st, the WVIFF’s Spring 2017 Film Festival will fire up in downtown Charleston and continue through Sunday, April 30th. Films will be shown both at WVIFF’s newly-opened microtheater, Underground Cinema (located on Capitol Street), as well as a short distance away at the Capitol Theater (located on Summers Street). Tickets can be purchased online, as well as at each venue. And now for the lineup…

I’ll be attending myself when possible. If you live in the area and make it down for a few showings, perhaps we’ll run into one another. In the meantime, be sure to check out the West Virginia International Film Festival online and on Facebook, as well as Underground Cinema. Support for both is always greatly appreciated.
