UPDATE: The Tracking Board is reporting that actress Jamie King has also joined Bautista in the Chinese co-production. She will play the female lead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, former professional wrestler-turned-actor Dave Bautista has joined the cast of Escape Plan 2. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor will star opposite Sylvester Stallone and Xiaoming Huang (and possibly Arnold Schwarzenegger) in the upcoming sequel, which is penned by original writer Miles Chapman. The film will lens soon, under the direction of Steven C. Miller (The Aggression Scale, Arsenal).
This will mark the second time that Bautista has worked with Miller. The two previously collaborated on last year’s Marauders, which also starred Bruce Willis, Christopher Meloni, and Adrian Grenier. It is unknown at the time what the actor’s exact role in Escape Plan 2 will be, but we’re willing to bet that he is a resident of the hi-tech prison that Stallone’s Ray Breslin is tasked with infiltrating this time.
Dave Bautista previously starred in films such as The Man with the Iron Fists, the aforementioned Guardians of the Galaxy, and the latest James Bond film, Spectre. He will next be seen this year in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, the indie action thriller Bushwick, and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049. He is currently shooting The Russo Bros.’ Avengers: Infinity War and is set to star in the sci-fi thriller Hotel Artemis, both of which are set for release in 2018.
