Atomic Blonde, arriving this summer from Focus Features, has its first trailer and it’s killer. Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) stars as MI6’s top operative sent into a hostile city to find who just who is knocking off all of the good guy spies. It is the latest film from director David Leitch (John Wick, Deadpool 2) and it bears an impressive cast…
A killer queen indeed. I don’t know about you, but I’m sold. The film is based on a graphic novel titled The Coldest City and it looks like another fine addition to the action subgenre of world class professionals killing the hell out of an endless run of goons. With one of the Wick guys at the helm, Theron as the star, and a supporting cast comprised of James McAvoy, Sofia Boutella, John Goodman, Toby Jones, Eddie Marsan, and Til Schweiger? Well, once again, I’m sold.
The story takes place in Berlin, on the eve of the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the shifting of superpower alliances. Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron), a top-level spy for MI6, is dispatched to Berlin to take down a ruthless espionage ring that has just killed an undercover agent for reasons unknown. She is ordered to cooperate with Berlin station chief David Percival (James McAvoy), and the two form an uneasy alliance, unleashing their full arsenal of skills in pursuing a threat that jeopardizes the West’s entire intelligence operation.
Atomic Blonde arrives in theaters on July 28th, 2017.
