Walt Disney Studios and Marvel have finally released an official synopsis for Thor: Ragnarok. The seventeenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ragnarok sees Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston back at it again as Thor and Loki. Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Idris Elba (Heimdall), and Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) will also be appearing in the picture. New to the MCU this time ’round are Tessa Thompson, Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill. Blanchett and Urban are our primary antagonist this time, playing Hela and Skurge, respectively. Thompson will portray female lead Valkyrie, Goldblum as Grandmaster, and Neill features in an as-yet-undisclosed role.
“In Marvel Studios’ “Thor: Ragnarok,” Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk.”
In addition to gifting us with the above plot tease, Marvel has also bequeathed us with a production still of director Taika Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth hashing things out. Speaking of Waititi, if you have not yet have the pleasure of seeing his latest work, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, you really should seek it out. Those of you with a Hulu account can actually stream it into your homes now, if you so desire.
