The hit BBC series “Sherlock” will be returning with its fourth season premiere on January 1st, 2017. To get fans excited – which, let’s be real, they’re already frothing at the mouths – a new 15-second teaser has been released, which you can watch below. A full teaser was released in summer, which I’ve also included.
The clip shows Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch sitting across from each other in Sherlock’s apartment, which just so happens to be flooded. I’m sure there are tons of little easter eggs scattered throughout but I’ve only watched the series once, so I don’t think I could identify them. If anyone knows what they are, please feel free to leave them in the comments!
The fourth season is said to be much darker in tone and in content, with Toby Jones playing a particularly horrific villain. When asked how dark the show was going to get, Cumberbatch told Collider, “Myopically dark. You’re talking about the end of the universe darkness. You can’t see in front of you and would walk into everything dark.”
Meanwhile, show creator Steven Moffat spoke about Toby Jones’ character and warns fans that he’s unlike anything we’ve seen before.
He’s completely different. It’s a completely different character. He’s the darkest villain we’ve had. There was always something charming and engaging about Moriarty. There was something fascinating and actually amoral, rather than immoral, about Charles Augustus Magnussen. This guy is the purest evil. Sherlock is actually appalled by him. He’s the most evil villain we’ve had. I don’t think that when you see it, you will disagree. He’s horrific.
