Earlier this year, synthwave artist Carpenter Brut released an official music video for his track “Turbo Killer”, which I dubbed “…one of the coolest music videos ever“. The video has since been watched over 1.5 million times, which is astonishing considering the fact that the artist’s Facebook page has less than 50k ‘Likes’. The massive popularity and interest in the video has led the directing duo known as Seth Ickerman to pursue a longer project that will essentially be a sequel to “Turbo Killer”.
Dubbed Blood Machines, the 30-minute short film will take inspiration from Michael Jackson videos like “Thriller” and “Captain EO”. The goal is to create an explosive and fantastic sci-fi experience that has a cinematic narrative and strong musical segments, which will be scored by Carpenter Brut.
Two space hunters are tracking down a machine trying to free itself. After taking it down, they witness a mystical phenomenon: the ghost of a young woman pulls itself out of the machine, as if the spaceship had a soul. Trying to understand the nature of this entity, they start chasing the woman through space…
To make this project happen, the team has turned to Kickstarter to fund the project, asking for a total of just under $80,000. Having seen “Turbo Killer” countless times, I can only imagine what this team would be able to accomplish with a real budget. What I envision is epic, astonishing, and possibly the beginning of a resurgence.
