Fox has finally renewed their DC/Vertigo Comics TV series, “Lucifer” for a second season. The show, which airs Mondays at 9pm EST after “Gotham“, has had fairly solid ratings ever since its debut in January, so a renewal was always expected. The show follows the newly-retired Satan, going by the name Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), as he takes up residence in Los Angeles. There he runs a bar, sees a therapist, and occasionally helps solve crimes with the aid of LAPD Detective Chloe Decker (Lauren German).
Fox’s President of Entertainment David Madden on the renewal…
“We knew we had something special with ‘Lucifer,’ from the engaging performances of Tom, Lauren and the rest of the charismatic cast, to Len Wiseman’s visually stunning look of the show and the amazing storytelling savvy of the Bruckheimer team.”
This marks the 12th live action comic book series to get a renewal this TV season. As of now, the only current, major comic book-based shows that have not yet been officially renewed are ABC’s “Agent Carter“, CBS’ “Supergirl“, and Netflix’s “Daredevil“. “Supergirl” and “Daredevil” are both sure to be renewed, but the prospect of a third season of “Agent Carter” remains shaky at best at the moment.
“Agents of SHIELD” (ABC), “Arrow” (The CW), “Dark Matter” (Syfy), “Fear the Walking Dead” (AMC), “The Flash” (The CW), “Gotham” (Fox), “iZombie” (The CW), “Jessica Jones” (Netflix), “Legends of Tomorrow” (The CW), “Powers” (PSN), and “The Walking Dead” (AMC) have all been renewed for further seasons or already have another season on the way. They are also joined by the upcoming likes of “Cloak & Dagger” (Freeform), “Iron Fist” (Netflix), “Luke Cage” (Netflix), “Most Wanted” (ABC), “Outcast” (Cinemax), “Powerless” (NBC), “Preacher” (AMC), and numerous others that have either already begun production or have been greenlit to series. Even more are in-development as we speak.
