‘The Legend of Tarzan’ Swings Into Action With A New Trailer

Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic pulp hero roars to life again on the silver screen this summer in The Legend of Tarzan.  Directed by David Yates (Harry Potter series), the film comes courtesy of Warner Bros. and features a star-studded cast comprised of the likes of Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson, Djimon Hounsou, Christoph Waltz, and many more.  Will Tarzan become king of the summer, in addition to being lord of the apes?  I guess we’ll find out come July 1st!

I would love to end up with a new series of Tarzan films, but I’m doubtful that audiences will flock to this to make it happen.  Legend has had a fairly well-publicized troubled production and at this point, the studio just seems to be washing their hands of it, more than anything.  It’s a shame, because the novels are ripe for the picking when it comes to crafting new big film franchises.  New as in most Tarzan films have never delved beyond the first couple novels, after which things start to get more wild and fantastical.  Hidden kingdoms, witches, sorcerers, half-man/half-animal adversaries, dinosaurs, demons, etc.  Throughout Burroughs’ original novels, Tarzan battled them all.  In the age of the superhero film, I’m somewhat baffled that they have shied away from that here.  If ever there was a time to bring the more fantastical Tarzan adventures to life, it is now.

Regardless, here’s the latest trailer for the film.  It actually looks pretty entertaining…

The Legend of Tarzan arrives in theaters on July 1st, 2016.  This latest adaptation of the classic Edgar Rice Burroughs character comes to us from director David Yates and screenwriters Adam Cozad & Craig Brewer.  The film stars Alexander Skarsgard, Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Djimon Hounsou, John Hurt, Casper Crump, Jim Broadbent, Simon Russell Beale, Osy Ikhile, Rory J. Saper, and Ella Purnell.
