Variety is reporting that director David Ayer, fresh off his villain-filled DC Comics gig, Suicide Squad, has already lined up his next film. That film looks to be Bright, a fantasy/action thriller set in a world where the likes of orcs and fairies exist alongside mankind. Interested yet? If not, here comes the kicker: Suicide Squad star Will Smith is on board as well.
I knew that would get your attention. Joel Edgerton (Warrior, The Gift) is also in talks to star and the tone is said to be similar to Ayer’s End of Watch, except with fantasy elements injected into it. The project, which is penned by Max Landis (Chronicle, American Ultra) and director Ayer, doesn’t have a studio home just yet, but is expected to find one shortly. Given that they are already super happy with Suicide Squad, I won’t be too surprised if Warner Bros. scoops this up for release next year.
Landis tweeted this about the film…
“Ayer translating a whole script of mine into Ayer-sian is a huge, bizarre honor. Like reading the same script from an alternate dimension.”
Bright is expected to film later this year.
