THR is reporting that Big Hero 6 will be scoring a sequel in the form of an animated series on Disney XD. The show will follow the continuing adventures of Hiro, Baymax, and their superfriends as they take on “scientifically-enhanced” villains that threaten their city. No targeted release slate has been mentioned at this time, but I wouldn’t be too surprised to see it debut this fall. The animated series will be run by Nick Filipi, Bob Schooley, and Matt McCorkle.
I’m honestly surprised that it took this long for a TV follow-up to happen. The film itself was a huge hit, pulling in a whopping $657.8 million worldwide. It also managed to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at last year’s Oscars. Not bad for a movie based on a rather obscure Marvel comic! It will join a wide assortment of Marvel animated shows that already inhabit Disney XD, including the likes of “Avengers Assemble“, “Ultimate Spider-Man“, and “Guardians of the Galaxy“.
