The ‘net has been aflutter with rumors and theories regarding who actor Martin Freeman might be playing in Captain America: Civil War. Some pointed towards Henry Peter Gyrich, long-time Avengers affiliate, although the rights mess in regards to that character’s X-Men ties always made that choice an unlikely one. Others pointed towards a Hydra-sympathizing British politician, which certainly seemed possible, given the presence of Baron Zemo (Daniel Bruhl). Speculate no longer! It appears that Freeman is playing none other than Wakanda liaison Everett K. Ross!
According to Empire, Freeman marks the third major Black Panther player to debut ahead of the Wakandan superhero’s own solo adventure. While there’s no certainty that both Freeman’s Ross and Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Klaw (who debuted in Avengers: Age of Ultron) will topline Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther alongside star Chadwick Boseman (also debuting in Civil War), it seems likely that they will. Coogler is certainly inheriting three great leads and I look forward to seeing who else he casts in his own Phase Three outing. As for Ross when it comes to Civil War, it appears he will be involved with the Joint Counter Terrorist Center.
