It’s been long rumored, but today it is finally fact. Actress Pom Klementieff (Sleepless Night, Oldboy) will be portraying Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017). Director/writer James Gunn finally confirmed it today via his Facebook account. In the comics, Mantis was half-human, half-Kree, but given that Gunn insists on Peter Quill being the only Earthling in his Guardians films, I’m guessing her origins have been altered slightly.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that the sequel’s returning cast will be comprised of Chris Pratt as ‘Peter Quill/Star-Lord’, Zoe Saldana as ‘Gamora’, Dave Bautista as ‘Drax the Destroyer’, Bradley Cooper as the voice of ‘Rocket Raccoon’, Vin Diesel as the voice of ‘Groot’, Michael Rooker as ‘Yondu Udonta’, Karen Gillian as ‘Nebula’, Sean Gunn as ‘Kraglin’, and Glenn Close as ‘Nova Prime Irani Rael’. They are joined by newcomers Kurt Russell, Steve Agee, Chris Sullivan, and Elizabeth Debicki. Ego the Living Planet is expected to make an appearance, although the actor portraying the sentient planet has not yet been disclosed. Thus far, it appears that both Thanos (Josh Brolin) and The Collector (Benecio Del Toro) will be sitting out this Phase Three sequel.
