Yesterday, a credible rumor hit the feeds stating that writer/director James Gunn is bring Ego the Living Planet to life in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It made the rounds on the usual sites, including our own. According to our own sources, the rumor appears to be true. Like any good game of telephone, however, the rumor seems to have taken a turn.
Today quite a few outlets were reporting that Ego will be one of the villains in the film. According to what we know, that’s just not true. So what will Ego be up to? It’s unclear, but all signs point towards him playing a neutral role in the proceedings, ala The Collector (Benecio Del Toro) in the first film. Will we be seeing a giant talking planet dishing out expository dialogue? Quite possibly and the sheer thought of it just makes me giggle with delight.
Long story short? Yes, it looks like Ego the Living Planet will be making his big screen debut next year in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. No, he is not the villain.
