It seems that Netflix is very keen on the addition of Jon Bernthal as “The Punisher” in season 2 of “Daredevil”. So much so, in fact, that they are looking at creating a spinoff series specifically for the violent antihero, who will make his premiere on the streaming network on March 18th.
If this happens, it will be the sixth series confirmed for Netflix, who already launched “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones” and are in the works now for “Luke Cage”, “Iron Fist”, and “The Defenders”.
The Punisher has appeared in three different Hollywood films, the first being the 1989 film that starred Dolph Lundgren, the second being the 2004 film with Thomas Jane and the third being the under-appreciated 2008 War Zone, which starred Ray Stevenson.
Fan reaction to the casting of Bernthal, who played Shane in “The Walking Dead”, was pretty much universally positive. However, Bernthal acknowledges that it’s a character that a lot of fans have strong feelings for, so we’ll see how much research and dedication he puts into pulling this off. Personally, I’m very eager to see how it all turns out!
