According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Amber Heard (Drive Angry, The Danish Girl) is in talks for the lead female role in James Wan’s Aquaman. An adaptation of the DC Comics by the same name, the film will center on the titular character and his underwater kingdom of Atlantis. Jason Momoa (“Game of Thrones“) will be playing the titular role and Heard’s intended role is expected to be that of Mera, Aquaman’s love interest and future wife.
Mera, at least in the comics, has the ability to control water and construct things out of it, which should certainly provide some interesting visuals. It should also help keep her from becoming a simple damsel in distress role. The project isn’t slated to arrive in theaters until July 27, 2018 and likely won’t shoot until next year, giving the Wan plenty of time to finish work on The Conjuring 2 at New Line (due out this summer), as well as time to thoroughly prep this project.
Momoa will first appear as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice this March and again in Justice League: Part One in November 2017. There’s no word at this time as to whether or not Mera could make her own first appearance in the latter, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if Atlantis is at least teased in JL: Part One.
Sorry. No data so far.
