While there has been little doubt about it since production began on the X-Men spin-off, Fox’s Deadpool has officially been given an R rating by the Motion Picture Association of America. Fans asked for a foul-mouthed, irreverent adaptation of their favorite Merc with a Mouth in his return to the big screen and they got their wish. Kudos to producer Lauren Shuler-Donner, director Tim Miller, the writers, and star Ryan Reynolds for delivering on their promise.
The film has been rated R by the MPAA for “strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity.” Are you happy? You should be. Whether the film is ultimately for you or not, it’s hard to argue with results such as these when you have the producers of AMC’s “Preacher” (a similarly-explicit comic, albeit with a different tone) constantly making excuses as to why they are watering down the source material. For better or worse, Deadpool is likely to be exactly like the comics on which it is based.
As a bonus bit of fun, check out these love-centric joke posters for the film’s Valentine’s Day release…
