Ayer & Affleck Speak On Batman In ‘Suicide Squad’

While it’s never been much of a secret, it’s 100% official now: Batman will be appearing in Suicide Squad in some capacity.  A large or even supporting role seems highly unlikely.  Think of it more as an extended cameo.  Regardless, Ben Affleck did show up on set for the shoot, so the role certainly won’t be relegated to a stuntman in the Batsuit.  USA Today brought a lot of the DC Cinematic Universe talent together recently, and the actor spoke about the part he had to play in the film and how it feels to be a part of a cinematic universe in general…

“It felt like I have such a cool cousin. This thing that is so awesome is somehow related to me, and that was really exciting because it started to feel like a constellation of things, and I’ve never had that feeling.”

Director/writer David Ayer also weighed in on having Affleck around…

“We made him fight,” the director says with a laugh. “He’s awesome (as Batman). … You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.”

And on the film’s characters in general…

“We all need good guys and everything — yay, good guys — but at the end of the day, they’re kinda boring,” the Fury director says. “They’re always going to do the right thing. When you’re dealing with the baddies, it’s easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations.”

We’ve also adorned the top of this piece with a new still from the film showcasing some of the Squad members.  Namely Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Deadshot (Will Smith), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).
