[TV Review] ‘Gotham’ Episode 2.10 – “The Son of Gotham”

Things kicked into high-gear this week.  Bruce finally wised up about Silver St. Cloud (Natalie Alyn Lind), using a criminal associate of Selina’s named The Knife (Tommy Flanagan) to help extract information from her, via a faux kidnapping.  It was nice to finally see the young Wayne use his brain for once and not just cluelessly wander through yet another episode.

It was also nice when, upon looking for Bruce and finally checking the Galavan tower, Alfred ended up going toe-to-toe with Tabitha Galavan (Jessica Lucas).  A nice knock down, drag out fight came of it, further drive home by a chase.  Alfred came out of it a bit worse for the wear, but such is life in Gotham, especially when you’re played by Sean Pertwee.

Poor Jim Gordon got a shock when the former mayor recanted his testimony against Theo Galavan, freeing the latter man from police custody.  This led to Jim being kidnapped by Galavan’s goons, strung up, and beaten in front of Theo.  Worse yet, when Jim it let loose and given a shot at taking Theo down, the latter tunes him up in quick order. I’d never seen James Frain perform martial arts before, so that was certainly new.  My favorite fight of the episode was still Jim decking Theo in the middle of a court room, however.  It was very Dirty Harry of him and he could use more moments like that more often.

Things were left with a beaten Gordon in the care of The Penguin (who saved his life), Alfred bleeding and bruised inside a dump truck, and Bruce kidnapped by Galavan.  Things aren’t looking good for our heroes and I suspect that won’t improve too much as we go into the mid-season finale next week.  I’m curious to see what is wrapped up before the winter break and what is left dangling for the second half of the season.
