Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rookie) has joined the cast of “Luke Cage“, Marvel’s third series for Netflix. Braga will be playing Soledad Temple, mother of Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson). I’m not well-versed in either character, but Braga is an underrated actress and will make a fine addition to the series. The show is currently in-production, though will be taking a break soon for the holidays and will resume filming early next year. A Summer 2016 debut is within the realm of possibility.
Braga is joining a pretty great cast all-around. Mike Colter is reprising his role of Luke Cage from the recently-premiered “Jessica Jones” and the aforementioned Dawson will continue as Claire Temple. Alfre Woodward is playing “Black Mariah” Dillard, Mahershala Ali is taking on the role of Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes, Theo Rossi is Shades, Frank Whaley is portraying Detective Rafael Scarfe, and Simone Missick is bringing to life Misty Knight. Frankie Faison also has a role on the show, which is being spearheaded by showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker.
