Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman is set to begin production in November, which means casting beyond the already-announced Gal Gadot (in the titular role) and Chris Pine (as Steve Trevor) is imminent. Over the weekend, Heroic Hollywood ran a story that the film’s Lasso of Truth may have roped in three of its main cast already. The outlet is reporting that Eva Green (Penny Dreadful, 300: Rise of an Empire) and Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, The Martian) are being eyed for roles in the film.
According to their sources, Green and Bean are being sought for the villainous parts of Circe the Sorceress and Ares the God of War. Other rumors peg Green as Amazonian-gone-bad Cheetah and Bean as a human threat. Either way, all signs point to two great character actors being set as Wonder Woman’s adversaries in her first solo adventure. I don’t think a better pairing could be found, especially in the eyes of a James Bond fan like myself, so here’s hoping these whispers pan out.
The site had also reported that Cate Blanchett had been approached for a role in the project, but ultimately passed. It was never specified which role Warner Bros. wanted Blanchett for, be it the villainess that Green is now sought for or an entirely different part. Perhaps Hippolyta (Diana’s mother) or Hera? Again, with production set to begin in November, we should be seeing a lot more casting rumors in the coming weeks, as well as plenty of actual announcements. As always, we will keep you posted.
