‘Luke Cage’ Enlists Rosario Dawson & Theo Rossi

Rosario Dawson is now set to reprise her role as Claire Temple in Marvel’s “Luke Cage” on Netflix.  The character first debuted on “Daredevil” earlier this year as a “night nurse” that helps Matt Murdock heal his injuries and she will be seen again on “Jessica Jones” later this year.  The character got her start in the comics as a love interest of Cage, show it’s only fitting that she appear in his series.  While it has not yet been confirmed, it is expected that Dawson will reprise the role on the eventual first season of “Iron Fist” as well.

Sons of Anarchy” alum Theo Rossi has also joined the series.  He will be playing Shades, a fellow prisoner inmate of Cage’s.  Upon getting out, Shades and fellow convict Comanche caused a lot of problems for Luke, so don’t be surprised if Rossi is playing a villain.  Shades had a special visor in the comics that allowed him to shoot energy blasts from his eyes, so it will be interesting to see if that aspect is carried over onto the series.

Rossi and Dawson join the already-cast Mike Colter as Luke Cage and Alfre Woodard as Minetta.  The roles of Willis “Diamondback” Stryker, Reva Connors, and Cottonmouth still remain uncast.  Cheo Hodari Coker (“Almost Human“, “Ray Donovan“) is the showrunner. Filming begins this week ahead of a premiere on Netflix sometime in 2016.

Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willy Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison.
