A trailer for the new Batman: Arkham Night DLC has been released and it shows the 1989 Batmobile in action! The DLC, which came out today, allows players to wear the Batsuit that was made infamous in Tim Burton’s 1989 version, which starred Michael Keaton as “Bruce Wayne” and Jack Nicholson as “The Joker”.
A YouTube comment on a different video states that there are some restrictions to the new DLC, writing, “The 1989 Batmobile can be used in free roam only once you’ve cleared the streets of the drones tanks. There’s no Battle Mode for this Batmobile, that means you can’t start missions that involve tank battles or use the car during the story. The Batsuit, instead, can be used anywhere, anytime.”
I watched the trailer and the first half didn’t really do anything for me, even though I recognize that it’s a beautiful game with a seemingly amazing storyline. However, when the music switches to Danny Elfman’s 1989 score and the game turns into a playable version of Batman and Batman Returns, I got goose bumps and the hairs on my neck stood on end. It was, in a word, glorious.
I grew up loving Burton’s version of the film, which was dark yet still comic book-y. It had this amazing atmosphere that I’d never seen before and I watched it probably far too many times.
With the 1989 Movie Batmobile Pack, you can get behind the wheel of the Batmobile from the 1989 film ‘Batman’ and outfit Batman with a customized skin from the film. The pack also gives you access to two racetracks inspired by the film’s sequel ‘Batman Returns’. In addition, if you successfully clear the streets of the Arkham Knight’s drone tanks, you can take the Batmobile for a spin on the streets of Gotham City.
Separately, the Bat-Family Skin Pack includes 6 skins based on the alternate timelines of your favorite characters including 1990s Catwoman, One Year Later Robin, Arkham Origins Batman, Iconic Grey & Black Batman, 1970s Batman and the Original Arkham Nightwing.
