As “Arrow” enters its fourth season and “The Flash” its second, CW hasn’t wasted any time in further expanding their DC-verse. “Legends of Tomorrow”, which is expected to begin airing in early 2016, brings together an assortment of characters from both shows to form a new team of heroes & antiheroes with one main focus: stop the evil, immortal Vandal Savage.
The series will combine the might of The Atom (Brandon Routh), White Canary (Caity Lotz), Dr. Martin Stein (Victor Garber), Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), and Heat Wave (Dominc Purcell) and toss in newcomers Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee), Jay Jackson (Franz Drameh), and time traveling hero Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) as they assault Savage on various fronts throughout time. As if that weren’t enough, the producers also revealed that Hawkman will appear at some point.
Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) and The Flash (Grant Gustin) are expected to join them in their quest from time to time, with their respective shows also helping to set-up the events of Legends of Tomorrow at the start of their upcoming seasons. It is expected that the unseen fate of Ray Palmer (aka The Atom) will be dealt with there, as well as the resurrection of Sarah Lance (aka White Canary). Given that Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) has not been listed among the cast, it’s likely that his separation from Stein and their combined persona of Firestorm will also be covered before Legends premieres.
The team dynamic will be the main focus of the series and we should expect to be presented with a very dysfunctional “family” of characters. We should also expect the series to go far crazier with its concepts and story than either “Arrow” or “Flash” have dared go thus far. Sounds like fun!
The producers seem to have a far greater handle on exactly what they have planned for this third series, but it’s still early days. A few main roles have yet to be cast (or even revealed, in some cases) and filming is still a ways off ahead of its early 2016 premiere. Trust that we will keep you updated as new information comes. In the meantime, give the teaser released a few months back another look!
