Lost in the middle of all of the panel/trailer frenzy for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad is the announcement that, according to MTV, DC & Warner Bros. have officially confirmed that their revival will come in the form of The Green Lantern Corps in 2020. So there you have it, folks! It will absolutely be a team affair, presumably with the rumored three Lantern leads.
Which three? We don’t know yet, but I’d put my money on Hal Jordan and John Stewart being two of them. They are the most popular of the Earth Green Lantern roster and both would make great additions to the upcoming DC Movieverse. Who will play our trio of Lanterns? We still don’t know.
Rumors persist that Chris Pine will be our new Hal Jordan, succeeding Ryan Reynolds from the 2011 film (which is not a part of this new multi-franchise). Some are saying that concept art shown today showcased a Hal Jordan that looked like Pine. As it stands, Pine has neither been confirmed nor denied as playing Jordan. The Star Trek actor is also rumored to be portraying Wonder Woman gentleman love, Steve Trevor, which only furthers confusion.
Regardless of who is playing what character, it is expected that we will see a Green Lantern grace the screen in 2017’s Justice League: Part One and likely again in 2019’s Justice League: Part Two. With The Green Lantern Corps following a year later in 2020, we’ll be spending at least a little bit of time with one Lantern in particular, before meeting his extended family of co-workers.
