I’m gushing over FOX’s Deadpool, Rob Liefeld’s comic creation (first appeared in “New Mutants” #98) being brought to life by Ryan Reynolds.
While the concept of an R-rated massacre is appealing, what really makes the character work is his comedic timing. But, when Deadpool is wearing his mask, it’s hard to “sell” a joke, which is why an actor’s eyes are so important. The thing that’s impressing me the most about all of these promo images are Deadpool’s eyes, and how there’s a literal “comic” appeal to them. There’s a ton of character in the design, and I’m wondering if they’re utilizing CGI to the mask. Whatever the case, everything we’ve seen thus far is fantastic.
Now, check out a new promo image and early teaser one-sheet setting up the film’s February 12, 2016 release.
Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Ed Skrein, and Brianna Hildebrand star with Reynolds. Take a look at Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead here!
Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller from a screenplay written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, ‘Deadpool’ tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
